Fae, Prologue

Prologue.

“Aloriel, step carefully,” I whispered into the darkness as I too minded my steps through the forest as we made our way through it. It wouldn’t be dawn for several hours – and at this rate, we would be far from our home castle by that time. “Mira?” There was a muffled growl from somewhere nearby, and cautiously I reached out a hand to see if I could feel Aloriel nearby. I only felt empty air as I took in an adrenaline fueled breath. “Aloriel?” I said, louder. I needed to find her. A wild dog would kill our unarmed duo in a flash. “Aloriel?” I called at the top of my lungs when in a couple quick seconds I still had not heard her.

“Mira!” Her scream came from yards away, and I ran towards it, before I heard the blood-churning tearing, and her sickening scream. Before I could get any further, a hands grabbed my arm, and then my head was thrust downward.

Fairy snatchers.
